Is it OK to do the Verizon OTA update to 2.1 if your phone is rooted and is setup for Wireless Tether?

    sure, why not?
Assuming you get the OTA, all that will happen is you get updated and will have to wait for root instructions/files for this new build.

Most ROMS do not allow the OTA.

he sounds like he rooted his phone manually and just added wifi tether. Though who knows what he really did, so that is why I said "Assuming you get the OTA" :D

That is correct. Also, I am not using a custom ROM.

If you have nandroid, you will have to give the update permission to install (the sprecovery blocks the auto-install) - but you should still get notified. But if you've removed the otacerts.zip, you will not get the update.

Think I'm gonna pass on this update until somebody figures out a root and overclock.

I rooted, overclocked, and installed 2.1 last week and I'm not going back to 550Mhz dammit! Ain't NO WAY!

We'll have the update.zip on the www by tomorrow.

If you are worrying about getting the update downloaded to your phone, who gives a crap? Just download it to your pc tomorrow and drag it to your sdcard. Problem solved. ;)

wait so what's in this newer build that most custom roms don't already have? I don't see a point in updating of it'll just return the phone to stock options.

What about the radio in the update? Or the new kernel. Will we need any of this to get flash to work when they finally release it?

We don't know what adobe will require for prerequisites. We are assuming that any Android 2.1 device will work with flash if it is supposed to work with 2.1.
