i cant answer it, but i can add another layer to the question: can i ignore the update without getting a notification every 30 minutes since my rooted droid blows an updated unrooted one out of the water?

This is my question as well, I am running stock 2.0.1 but I am rooted w/Nandroid. Can I just update from .zip when it's released or will I have to unroot my phone?

Rooting the real 2.1 will almost definitely happen, but it might take a few days.

You can ignore the update until you reboot if you have the stock 2.01.

Root alone without custom rom or recovery wont block the update from downloading.

    Sure you can.

Though depending on whether he has sprecovery or not will determine whether he has to allow the update. Or if he (or a custom rom) removed/edited the otacert.zip file from his phone, then he would not get the OTA>

:icon_ rocker: I figured that's what you meant, but it was worth clarifying.
