I've been running a 64GB San Disk Ultra card for over a year now (since Verizon S4 release day) without any problems.
The last time I flew was in 1998. I had to prove my cell phone and pager both worked, way back then.
My 64G SanDisk works fine & no issues in over a year.
List the Baseband & Kernel versions. ROM build number may help as well.

I believe your first problem is related to S-voice. IIRC, S-voice can be activated by a double tap of the home button, so the phone has a delay...
Your biggest drain while texting should be the screen being on constantly. Lowering your brightness would help the most.

You missed the "& flashing ROMs" part. An MDK phone has much more potential than a phone with a newer baseband & Knox.
Go to Settings/More/About phone and see what baseband you have. If you like having root & flashing ROMs, you don't want to take the update anyway....
