If you own a Nexus then chances are you are pretty familiar with flashing a stock image to your device. Last week Google released an all new 5.0 Lollipop Preview build. There are several changes, especially in the Material theme. Installing this is actually pretty simple. You will need to have an abd/fastboot environment setup on your PC or mac. Normally this means having the adb.exe and fastboot.exe files stored in a folder. If you don't already have that set up you can find some pretty simple instructions here.

Once you have the adb and fastboot environment setup you can...

Everyone knows that the ViperOneM8 rom series by Team Venom is probably the most customizable roms for the HTC One M8. This rom has many fonts, themes, wallpapers, icon packs, and much more. There are also some really neat unique features like Venom Sidebar which is team venoms version of multitasking, sound enhancer, Venom Pie, status bar customizations, homescreen customizations, coloring options, lockscreen options, buttons options, Xposed options, cpu and kernel options and much more. The latest build includes an update to android 4.4.4. This is not currently available for Verizon and Sprint. As soon as these carriers release a 4.4.4 build ViperOneM8 3.0.0 will be available for these variants too. it should be noted that while this rom is extremely customizable it is based on HTC Sense not AOSP. You will also want to be sure to update your firmware (if not the phone won't boot). Head to...

If you are like me you are always actively looking for ways to save battery life. I am a pretty heavy user, and need atleast 3-4 hours of screen on time per day. I use my phone to check emails, twitter, and research things on the web throughout the day. One of my favorite devices of all time was the Note 3. The reason I loved it so much is because it had great battery life with such a huge battery. There are plenty of ways that you can save on battery life. On my LG G3 I have been pretty successful at saving battery life by simply turning my screen brightness down to 35%. This gets me through the entire day with more than 25% battery left at the end of most days. There are other ways to save on battery though.

Wugfresh has been hard at work perfecting the Nexus Root Toolkit in preparation for the release of Nexus 5 and Nexus 9 as well as the official release of Android 5.0 Lollipop. In the previous release we saw the addition of the stock 5.0 images for both the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. In the release of v1.9.1 we now have a full root procedure for the new 5.0.0 Lollipop preview build. This makes the root process fully automated. Without the NRT you would need to flash a boot.img and then you would be able to root. Also included in the latest update are extended the hybrid downloader to look for 'root kernel' to better prepare for future 5.0 updates, a user option for disabling the QuickBoot app installation when rooting, and other various bug fixes. If you don't already have the NRT downloaded and ready for when you receive your new devices now would be the time to go grab it. Head to the link below for the download.

One of the biggest changes in the UI of Android Lollipop is in the all new keyboard. It gets the Material UI upgrade treatment. The biggest difference here is a lighter more minimal theme. The keyboard actually operates pretty much the same as it has in previous versions of Android. This keyboard has actually been available since the first Android L preview build was released at Google I/O in June, however it was a bit more difficult to install and did require root. Now the installation has been simplified. If you can install an app you can install the new Lollipop keyboard. Head to your settings, then security settings, and then enable "unknown sources". In the long run, Lollipop was the name and logo which won out to be the final "dessert" theme for Android 5.0. Last year, we all thought it would be Key Lime Pie, and there was even evidence it was called that internally by Google devs right up until the last minute before it was suddenly changed to KitKat.

While that particular instance occurred because of a marketing deal that Nestle made with Google, the latest Android 5.0 had several options which could have become the final Android "L" dessert theme. The answer as to why Lollipop was chosen may never be known officially, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate on "what might have been." The folks at AnDevCon.com did exactly. They created a series of logos for several of the possible Android dessert themed logos that could have existed if Lollipop was not picked.

The above is for "licorice" which was rumored to be the final version,...

The Nexus 6 from Google and Galaxy Note 4 from Samsung are large devices. How large are these two handsets when sitting next to one another? Carphone Warehouse have answered some questions for us, in a video of the two devices working alongside one another.

The Googlers are famous for their numerous entertaining easter eggs they include in every version of Android. Their latest one merges the some interesting "flavors" into a playable game. They basically created a clone of the popular mobile game Flappy Birds, but instead of the "flappy bird" avoiding pipes, you have "Andy the Android" floating avoiding Lollipops. The only other difference is that this game plays from right to left, instead of left to right as in the OG Flappy Birds.

The above video shows how to access the Easter Egg. Obviously, only folks who have already downloaded the developer version of Android 5.0 on their devices can try it out, but very soon that will change once Google starts pushing the final build of Android 5.0 out to all phones. If you are a fan of Flappy Birds and Google's creative easter eggs, then this seems like a win-win for you!

http://forumfoundrycdn.com/dgstorm/df2014/lg-AKA-animated-eyes.gif

According to the latest reports from LG, the company is soon to introduce a bizarre new concept to the smartphone world. It's called the LG AKA, and it is a phone that supposedly can express "moods" with its animated eyes. These eyes peek out from the front of the phone above the interchangeable case cover, as shown in the animated gif above.

Not much else is known about these "mood-phones," but it does at least prove that LG is trying to think outside the box, even if the idea is a little creepy...
