Amazon has announced a bevy of devices today available for pre-order (shipping in October). One short news article is hardly even enough space to cover them, but here's a quick summary.

First up, we have the newest Fire HD tablet which starts at $100 for the 8GB ad supported 6" version (or $134 for the 16GB non-ad supported version). It features front and rear cameras and sports a quad core 1.5 GHz processor.

Next up is the Fire HD Kids Edition which is very similar to the new Fire HD. It starts at $149 for a 6" and $189 for a 7." The big difference here is that the ruggedized tablet has a 2 year Accidental Damage Warranty which covers it even if your 5 year old tries to flush it down the toilet. Amazon bills it as a "Real tablet, not a toy"... and it is. This includes a year of "Amazon Freetime" which is like "Prime for Kids."

Our third is a refreshed Fire HDX 8.9 which features a new processor and GPU. Amazon claims it is 70% faster than the previous HDX....

Paul O'Brien is a pretty well-known developer within the Android community and he has been known to get some leaked intel correct from time to time. He just tweeted that he received an anonymous tip regarding the upcoming Nexus 9 tablet. Supposedly, it will launch on October 16th.

It's important to note the word "launch" in this regard. If this tip turns out to be accurate it is probably meant to portend the actually retail street date of the product. Most of the solid intel we have received up until now has suggested Google will reveal the Nexus 9 and other Android L products on (or around October 8th).

We will keep an eye out for anything corroborating this rumint.

Fans of the RTS-style game Clash of Clans who also happen to love the Star Wars universe are in for a treat! Star Wars Commander is now available for Android, and it's basically just like Clash of Clans only it's set in the Star Wars universe instead of the medieval fantasy-style found in Clash of Clans.

The game is free to play, but you know what that means... it includes the dreaded IAP (in app purchase) system. Supposedly, the IAP for this game isn't too terrible though, so it could still be worth a look.

Here's a quote from the Google Play description and a link below to try it out.

For months, OnePlus has been teasing the upcoming arrival of custom backplates for their One series phone. This included bamboo, silk white and sandstone black "StyleSwap" covers. Unfortunately, the company has decided to kill the option before they ever launched it.

OnePlus shared in a blogpost that "technical difficulties" during mass production created some problems. Apparently, the custom covers would become slightly loose, which risked damage to the non-removable battery they was designed to protect.

Here's a quote of the blogpost with a few of the details,

According to the latest scuttlebutt, Motorola isn't finished revealing awesome new smartphones. The next gen Moto X may be their current focus, but the intel we found suggests the company is set to launch the new Droid Turbo next month (October). On top of that, its internal hardware could make it the most cutting edge device has ever created.

Here is the rumored spec-list:
  • 4.6-inch quad-HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 - pixel density of 640 PPI
  • 2.65 GHz Snapdragon 805 SoC
  • 3 GB RAM
  • 32 GB internal storage
  • 20 MP camera
  • Android 4.4.4 KitKat (Android L not far behind)
  • Quick-charge feature built-in (which was hinted at on the @DroidLanding Twitter page)
Supposedly, the device's internal codename is Quark. Of course, this is just rumor for now, so it's entirely possible it is fan-boy hyperbole and we could end up with less "pronounced" specs. We will keep you posted with more...

If you have made a habit of pirating apps you should be aware that developers that would generally have no means of retribution have taken to public shaming. An IOS jailbreak developer has exposed the pirates of his app with a little nugget of hidden code. This code will auto tweet "I just opened ControlCenter on mypirated copy of #hideme7 by @CPDigiDarkroom" from the pirate's phone. Also it auto tweets on your behalf every time you interact with the app. It is pretty scary that developers have this kind of access to your device when you use apps from untrusted sources, this should be reason...

If you are looking forward to grabbing the all new Moto G from Motorola here in the next few weeks you may want to learn how to get it rooted so you will be ready when the phone arrives. This method will only work if you are able to unlock the bootloader via the Motorola dev site. You will also need Motorola drivers installed and have fastboot drivers installed. This probably won't work on carrier devices like the Verizon and AT&T variants.

Steps:

1. Unlock your Bootloader..Click here
2. Download...

While the new Moto X is nearly a full vanilla AOSP Android experience Motorola has added a few apps of their own to make this the best experience possible. Most OEM bloatware apps are just that, bloat that is not needed on the device that just take up valuable resources. Motorola on the other hand has released some pretty useful apps in the past with their handsets like motorola assist and motorola connect.

They have added 4 new custom Motorola apps to the 2014 Moto X. These new apps include Moto (an assistant that helps new users to become more familiar with their phone), Moto Actions (Allows you to configure 3D gestures which can be...
