Many users trying to download apps from the new Android Market Website are faced with a troubling error they can’t get past (we’ve got a solution). When they select an app to install they’re met with a message saying, “”There are no android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account.”
If you’ve got the same problem (it’s affecting both rooted and non-rooted users), we’ve got step-by-step solution that should have you downloading apps and games from the market website in no time:
- - Click on My Account
- - Click on Recovering Password
- - Enter password (to validate it’s you)
- - Under the SMS Section:
- Click Edit
- If phone number is there – remove your phone number – if number not there, go to step 6
- Sign Out
- Sign back in, go back to same page as needed – or if prompted:
- Enter and save your phone number
- Sign out
Thanks to EarlyMon from AndroidForums who tracked down the solution and tipped us… you da man!

On May 10-11 of this year, Google is holding their "I/O" event. This one's just for developers, and you get a chance to see what cutting edge hardware and/or software Google is cooking up. It'll definitely be interesting to see what they are working on as they have already released a ton of goodies for us at the beginning of the year. So far, here is a quick breakdown of just some of the 'talks' they will be holding at the event:
- Storing your Data on Google's Cloud
- Building Web Apps for Google TV
- Building Android Apps for Google TV
- HTML5 Showcase for Web Developers: The Wow and the How
- Launch and Grow Your Business App on the Google Apps Marketplace
Those last two are highlighted because research indicates that those are two of the best career fields to pursue right now. HTML5 and Android App-based businesses are 'high-growth' fields for IT and Software professionals. Definitely worth checking out if you are about to enter college or are considering a career shift.
Ticket prices for the event are as follows:
The Early Bird Price (until 4/16/11) starts at $450, the regular List Price (starting 4/17/11) is $550, for Academia (student, faculty) it's $150, and there is an additional BootCamp Program that adds +$100 to all registration types.

Google has just released an official blogger up for you to "get your blog on". The app is called, Blogger. Hmmm... go figure. It has some very useful features. Here's a list of some of them:
- An offline mode so you can write posts on your phone first
- Support for multiple accounts and blogs
- The ability to insert photos directly from your phone’s gallery
- Location sharing
- And more...
It's available for free on the Android Market. Now, if you are on vacation in Tahiti, you can still update your blog, and just tell your "SO", that you are texting your grandmother.

We are getting a trickle of info in that many custom ROM or rooted phones are having issues with Google's new Web-based Android Market. What some people have reported experiencing is that a "stock" Android phone will show up properly in the "My Device" page, but some custom ROMs on the same phone do not. Sound off in the forums and let us know what your experience has been so far. Maybe we can get to the bottom of this mystery, if there is one...

It’s obvious that HTC is slowly becoming one of the largest phone manufacturers in the world, and the latest business week report indicates it is almost certainly thanks to Android. The chart above was created by Business Insider. The sales from devices like the Droid Incredible, Evo 4G, and more, comes together to give them a little more than three times the profit margins they saw before.
What do you think of HTC’s place in the Android world? Do you think they are the best Android phone maker in the world?

If you browse the web often, you almost certainly have seen many Android fragmentation comments; interestingly enough Google’s latest numbers indicate Android’s latest versions are running on 90% of all devices. This number was produced earlier today, and says 9/10 Android phones are running Éclair (Android 2.1) or newer. FroYo controls the largest margin with 57.6 devices running that version of Android. Android 1.5 and 1.6’s margins are slowly getting smaller and hopefully everyone will soon be in 2.X margin and all fragmentation comments will rest.

The ability to get emergency help while your phone is locked was lost for DL09 owners with the last update, well the update that was promised by VZW is already here. The update that will be available very soon will fix the DL09’s emergency lock screen dialer and a host of other issues. While this update doesn’t include anything new that weren’t already pushed out, it shows how quick Samsung and Verizon can be at update -- If only that was true when it came to FroYo .

Some consider VLC to be the most versatile Windows video player in the world, and if you remember a few months back, they announced that they’d been working on an Android client. It is nearly here. The application is not ready for release yet, but the screen shot above shows that they are busy working on it.
Here is the note from the developer:
"VLC media player on Android is working quite well. Anyway we are not ready to release a version until some months because we want something stable and nice to use. Be patient, we are working on it, even if this job is only done on our free time."
I am an avid VLC for Windows 7 user, and I think this is a great new development because a lot of the alternatives Android has does not really support all the format like VLC would.
Any thoughts about this news or do you guys already have another video player on your device?

In Android 2.X you’re able to switch keyboards in a few easy steps by going to the settings menu and doing the usual routine; however, the new method of switching keyboards is a little different in Android’s 3.0 Honeycomb tablet OS. While you can still switch between all the different on-screen keyboards Android offers, the magic auto switching keyboard concept (switches depending on app) that many people have been requesting is still not here. We can always hope for that in an update.
Does this seem simple enough or is there another way you'd like it done.

With the Superbowl coming this weekend this is welcome news for Steelers Fans. The Android Market now has a custom "Terrible Towel" app for Pittsburgh Steelers fans. The app gives you a digital Terrible Towel image on their mobile device. It also provides real-time Steelers news, 2010 highlights and past Super Bowl rings display, and live updates and tweets from various Steelers' players. The developer of the app had this to say,
It's probably also not a good idea to lay on it or try and drape it around your girlfriend. It does require the Adobe Air plugin, so be sure to downlaod that before paying the $0.99 cents for the app. Enjoy!
You don't have to ever wash this Terrible Towel. Actually, I recommend against it!

As has been the case lately with Samsung lately, we have more drama from them. Their modus operandi (M.O.) has been to deny any reports that might reflect negatively on their operations, and they are following this same pattern yet again. Recently we reported in our 'Unhappy Sammy' article, that a third-party marketing research firm did an independent study of return rates for the Samsung Galaxy Tablet, and found them to be as high as 16 percent. Samsung denies this and claims that the report is false. They claimed that their returns are less than 2 percent.
I fully understand a company wanting to defend its marketing position with a bit of "informational spin", but there can't really be that much of a discrepancy with the numbers... What do you guys think? I'm actually a fan of some of Samsung's products, (I love their LCD and LED TV's), but their mobile phone division needs to get its act together.

There have been a ton of leaks about the Sony Ericsson Android smartphone the Xperia Play, (a.k.a. the PlayStation Phone), that's soon to be officially released at MWC in a couple weeks, but now there is an actual commercial for it. This video is both pretty cool and pretty creepy at the same time, thus, I had to share it with you guys!

If you didn't like the iPhone before, here is another reason to be angry that it is coming to Verizon. An eagle-eyed information gatherer from website 'BGR' found a .pdf file on Verizon's own website that indicates one of the ways Verizon plans to 'manage' the heavy flow of data traffic it expects from the soon-to-be-released Verizon iPhone. They intend to slow the download speeds of any users who hit a 5 percent peak on data usage. Conveniently, once this was reported, Verizon removed the file from their website. Here is a quote from the original file,
So, not only do they plan on slowing the download speeds for heavy data users, but the files might turn out 'wonky'? So much for 'unlimited' data plan. Yes, they may be allowing you to access as much data as you want, but they are still putting 'limitations' on the service for certain 'high usage' customers. I suppose this 'data-throttling' has to happen for now, but what do you guys think of this new development?
If you use an extraordinary amount of data and fall within the top 5% of Verizon Wireless data users we may reduce your data throughput speeds periodically for the remainder of your then current and immediately following billing cycle to ensure high quality network performance for other users at locations and times of peak demand.
While we invest much effort to avoid changing text, image, and video files in the compression process and while any change to the file is likely to be indiscernible, the optimization process may minimally impact the appearance of the file as displayed on your device.
