One of the reasons I love to run AOSP roms is because of the awesome themes that are available for roms like Cyanogen Mod and AOKP. With these theme chooser themes the entire framework and system UI can be themed which is not the case for launcher themes which can't go as deep. The new Energize theme by theme developer "Kevin3328" is the perfect mix between industrial and futuristic! It has the Tronesque blue lights going for it, while also not going totally Tron overboard. The gold and orange tints really set this theme off giving it a totally unique look and feel. App icons have been themed, as well cLock, dialer, notifications bar, nav bar, quick settings, settings, Pandora and much more! You can have this theme for the very reasonable price of $1.50. Grab it from the play link below.

I had all but forgotten about the Droid Bionic. I was pretty excited to see some new development for this old device today, and I think you will be too. Team Rage has put together a pretty popular rom for the RAZR HD and it looks like they may be branching out to other Motorola devices as well. The Droid Bionic was a device that was built to last. I imagine it is still pretty capable for those of you who still own it today. It was the first device on Android to rock a dual core processor, and what do you know the newest Motorola phone to come out, the MotoX, also has a dual core processor. The Bionic still holds its own, and if it aint broken why fix it. Even if you aren't ready to trade up for a new device you can give your Bionic that "new" feel with the Raging Bionic Rom.
The Raging Bionic Rom is based on Stock Moto Blur Jelly Bean but has some extra tweaks and enhancements for speed and performance as well as some custom features. This Rom has been debloated, GPS lock has been improved for accuracy, LMT Pie Launcher Controls, Battery Tweaks, Greenify App, Koush's superuser app, 1% battery mod, fully customizable notification toggles, Gapps built in, Apex Launcher, Moto HD launcher, Apollo Music, Governors and Schedulers baked in, Optional Over clock built in, Loopy smoothness tweak, 4.2 camera and gallery, moto camera and gallery, and more.
If you have not run a rom or even considered running one in a while this should be worth a flash for sure! Grab it at the source link below.
The Google Edition Rom has been available for the Verizon Galaxy S4 for quite some time now, however you have never seen this rom with all of the features of Eclipse! Developer Nitroglycerine33 has released his Eclipse Google Play Edition for our device. This is of course a an AOSP rom with all Touchwiz and bloatware removed. This Rom has seen a few builds so all of the bugs have been worked out and this should be a pretty stable experience for you.
This Rom has some awesome custom features including a Fully inverted dark UI (the same one that we have come to know and love from the eclipse rom series), quick-reply mms with group list messaging, Inverted T9 dialer, cLock widget, Replaced Chrome Browser with Eclipse Browser, Dsp manager, file manager, calculator with widget, Inverted Email Eclipse AOSP source based, Inverted Google Calendar, Inverted Google Music, Inverted Google Play Store, Inverted Gmail, Inverted Hangouts, Inverted Youtube, Inverted Google Now, Reboot options, customizable quick settings, customizable battery options and more!
This Rom does include the Ktoonz kernel which will allow you to do all sorts of things like set voltage, and clock speed. You can also enable other mods like fast charge. The only bug that is known to exist is a bug with the carrier label. Grab this Rom from the source link below!

Ray Hodge posted a video on note 2 forums that I believe deserve its own thread as this is an important matter. As android enthusiasts hoping for the latest and greatest to dissect we at time forget that not every one is die hard android fans who could recover devices in their sleep. There are many of our friends, family members, church members, and co-workers who are still trying to figure out how to navigate the ends and outs of their phones. When manufacturers lock bootloaders they are the ones they are protecting and have to look out for. I want to take the time in this thread to discuss a few tips and tricks to help the new users protect themselves while they learn their phone.

Hot on the heels of our previous story sharing that Verizon is juggling the launch date of their Moto X to August 29th, we have a secondary confirmation that Sprint and AT&T will still be launching theirs on August 23rd, as we reported previously.
New sources close to the matter have indicated that things have not shifted for AT&T and Sprint. The Moto X should still launch with them on the previously rumored August 23rd launch date. Strangely, we have less info coming out regarding T-Mobile on this device. It's possible their launch date is now in flux and might get delayed or even accelerated. Of course it could also mean nothing at all, and the August 23rd launch date for the Moto X on the "light red" network might still hold true.
For those looking to grab the new Moto X, which carrier will you be getting it for?

This is going to be a two for one here folks. For those of you who are anxiously awaiting the new Droids or Moto X to drop on Verizon's network we have some official and unofficial dates for you. First up is the Droids (Ultra and MAXX), those beautiful beasts exclusive to Big Red initially set a ship date of August 20th, but it looks like that date has been adjusted and those phones are shipping on August 27th. The Droid Mini still holds it's original ship date of August 29th, so customers do not need to worry about any delays on that end.
Next up is the Verizon branded Moto X release. Before jumping in feet first we have to clarify that this is unofficial at this time, and if you've been on Verizon long enough you know never to count anything as official until Verizon announces it. HTC Thunderbolt anyone? I bet that just caused some crazy flashbacks for some people. Anywhoo, Android Central got their hands on a screenie from Best Buy's system. It shows the highly anticipated Verizon branded consumer phone Moto X hitting Best Buy shelves on August 29th with stock on hand August 15. Will those dates stand? We certainly hope so, but we aren't going to hold our breath. A staggered launch with the Droids dropping first, and a week or two later the Moto X drops makes a little more sense to us, but then again this is Verizon so anything is possible. Did someone just say "no rhyme or reason"?
There you have it folks.

We thought it would be interesting and entertaining to get your perspective on which new flagships from the four major U.S. competitors you would choose in a knock-down, drag-out gladiatorial battle for supremacy. If the Samsung Galaxy S4, the HTC One, the LG G2, and the Moto X/Droid Ultra (or some other device) entered an arena to brawl in a fight to the death, which one would end up in your pocket as the final victor?
Obviously it would be easy to argue just the specs for some of these devices, yet as has been increasingly apparent over the past few years, sometimes the quality and like-ability of a device do not rest on internal hardware alone.
Here are your choices:
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- HTC One
- LG G2
- Moto X/Droid Ultra
Which one is your huckleberry?

That's the thing with being in the hardware business. Even when you have another manufacturer building your devices, you are still responsible if your name is on it. It looks like some folks who own the next generation Nexus 7 from Asus and Google are experiencing a number of different multi-touch issues with their new device. Here's a quote with some of the details,
Apparently the new Nexus 7 is also beset with GPS issues as well. Google is working hard on a solution to both problems. Here's what they had to say, "The Android team is aware of this issue and investigating. I'll post an update when there's new information to share." Above is a video demonstrating the multitouch glitches.
Several owners of Google's new tablet say the screen doesn't respond properly when they perform certain multitouch actions, such as pinching to zoom in or touching the screen with two fingers to move an item. Commenters posting on Google Groups and the XDA Developers forum over the past couple of weeks report a few related issues.
In some cases, pinching the screen causes surrounding items to jump around. In other cases, several attempts must be made to move an object successfully using multitouch. Some users also say the on-screen keyboard is buggy, registering a single tap as a double tap.
Some owners say they traded in their bad models for new ones, with mixed results.

We've recently seen some leaks of a new Android tablet device which us supposedly coming out from NVIDIA, called the Tegra Tab 7. This new 7-incher just showed up in some AnTuTu benchmarks, and although these artificial benchmarks should be taken with a double helping of salt, it is still worth a quick gander. The Tegra Tab 7 scored an impressive 27,643. This is in the upper range or performance, although it should also be noted that this may have been in 720p instead of full 1080p HD, so these numbers will skew a little bit toward the higher end.
Of course, the 720p display has not been confirmed, so it is possible this is in 1080p mode, which would indicated monster performance. This likely confirms the Tegra 4 chipset rumored to be inside. The benchmark also shows the device will initially come with Android 4.2.2. We will keep you updated as more info arrives on this device.

It looks like the U.S. and Europe are now playing catch-up when it comes to faster wireless internet speeds. Several new Asian markets have started popping up sporting the newer LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation method. This type of LTE-Advanced combines two levels of electromagnetic spectrum into one to offer greater speeds.
The newest market to start firing up a faster network is Telstra in Australia. They join SK Telecom, which was the first to rollout this technology. Telstra LTE-Advanced brings wireless download speeds of up to 150Mbps by combining their 900 MHz spectrum and their 1800 MHz airwaves. Additionally, they can splice more spectrum into this later on to achieve 300Mbps (for this type of LTE-Advanced). This is about four times faster than anything in the U.S. and three times faster than Europe and Canada.
Luckily, the companies in Europe and North America aren't too far behind. T-Mobile and Verizon are already planning to launch their first LTE-Advanced networks within the coming months, and within the next three years all the major U.S. carriers will be offering some version of carrier aggregated LTE-Advanced. Also, although carriers in Europe are a bit farther behind, when they do start to roll it out, it shouldn't take too long because they are sitting on a great deal of spectrum they can combine all at once.
It will definitely be interesting to see how these faster speeds translate into real-world performance on our smart devices.

LG just shared their newest promo video for the LG G2. The video showcases the ease of use for the rear control functions on the new device. It's a bit melodramatic, but you still might find yourself inspired by its high-tech style. It's not hard to appreciate the high quality commercials the mobile OEMs are cranking out these days. Pretty soon, it seems like commercials are going to be more entertaining than Hollywood movies! o_O

The HTC One should be dropping on the Verizon Network any day now. If you can't wait to get your paws on the new HTC One and Sense 5 and you currently own a Samsung Galaxy S3 then you may be in for a treat! Developer "albinoman" has successfully ported the entire HTC Sense 5 experience to your device. The project is still in the beta stage and not everything is working, but you can still give Sense 5 a try.

As you can see this rom still has a lot of work, and this is in no way a daily driver rom. If you have the itch to play around with a new OEM skin this is your opportunity.
Grab this rom here and discuss
If $35 is just to expensive for a device that basically runs youtube and netflix there is now a cheaper option than the Chromecast dongle. When i say cheaper i mean FREE. The CheapCast app brings the entire Chromecast experience to your device by emulating the chromecast dongle. This allows your Android device to act as target for Chromecast enabled applications. This would be perfect for an Android computer on a stick. This app is still in Beta and has not been tested on every device. It may or may not work on your device.
Using this app is pretty easy all you have to do is install the app and then enable it. Inside the app you can change the name which is used to identify the receiver. This app has also been opened sourced by its developer so we may see more development like this in the near future.
