As far as I know the Skype version in the Android market can't make 3g calls inside the US. It didn't work for me.
Skype Now Available on Android Market, No 3G Access in US | PhoneNews.com
This is app I tried:
-Skype (Unlocked for 3G calling in the US)
I just intalled it on my Motorola Droid and it works perfetly.
I'm not from USA but this Skype works well with WiFi and with local 3G operator.
Thanks a lot for developers and men who unloked Skype!!!

Highly appreciate your works, Xeudoxus! Many thanks. Please correct me if I'm wrong...
If I have a "fresh" Android 2.2 device (new, non rooted), I have 2 options:
Option 1: Root the Android 2.2 device. Uninstall the preinstalled Skype on the device (IF HAVE ONE). Download and install Skype.apk and enjoy make/receive any type Skype calls (Skype to Skype, Skype-in, Skype-out) over 3G on the Android 2.2 device?
Option 2: Just simply download and install Skype1.apk and enjoy make/receive Skype calls (Skype to Skype, Skype-in, Skype-out) over 3G on the Android 2.2 device?
Once again, please correct me if I'm wrong. Sincerely, thanks to everyone, and especially Xeudoxus.

Do these "unlocked" Skype apps require Android 2.2?
I have a Samsung Intercept with Virgin Mobile, running Android 2.1 (non-rooted).
I cannot make a call using either of these "unlocked" versions of Skype on 3G. Everything works fine until I try to make a call. Tapping on the "Echo / Sound Test Service" causes the app to crash and relaunch itself.
I have tried these versions, as well as other "unlocked" versions of Skype found at other sites. It either crashes or it immediately ends the call and (on the third try) tells me that I'm already on two Skype calls and that I should end one of them before trying to start another.
Does anyone know if there's a way to get this working on a Virgin Mobile Samsung Captivate? Do I need to root the device manually upgrade it to 2.2? I don't want to risk bricking my new phone if I can help it.
You guys realize this is the OLD OLD Skype right? The old Skype couldn't keep a connection worth **** even if you begged it to. There have been at least 15+ requests and promises of donations if the current Skype gets done. No response as of yet. At least the latest Skype app can somewhat reasonably keep connection.
Doesn't work on my Samsung Vibrant w/ Froyo official release.
When I try to call a friend in my skype contact list, right away it says call ended. If I try again, I am getting the message about could not make 2 calls simultaneously.
