Is it possible to revert firmware?

I got the latest over the air update (1.70.605.0) and read later that it breaks tether functionality.

The question is would it be possible to revert back to a firmware that can be rooted (by current methods) so that I can go with a stock android ROM with tether ability?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give
