In my case I noticed one problem, I can browse root, installed titanium backup and it ran.. but I cannot move any of the bloatware apps to the /sdcard/. I can copy them, cannot delete them. Seems I dont have true root access.

When you run the tool, it will ask you to install su which will fix root.

Ok so I downloaded the tools, ran the driver.exe, then ran the Thunderbolttool.bat. When it boots up, I get the following:

Welcome to the HTC Thunderbolt tool, by trter10.

    Phone information:

    ROM Version: 2.11.605.19 710RD - Android 2.3.4

    Superuser binary v3.0.3.2

    MAIN MENU
    --------------------------------------------------------
    1 - Recovery menu
    2 - Boot menu
    3 - Extras menu
    4 - Unroot
    5 - About
    R - Reload info
    --------------------------------------------------------
Choose what you want to do or hit enter to exit.
I was not prompted to install su, although I do see a Superuser binary v3.0.3.2 which I assume means I already have it installed? Or is it the incorrect one installed? I can see files in /system/app but I cannot delete them.

Try S-OFF but no root in the extras menu.

Did it, no errors. Rebooted phone, browsed to /system/apps and tried to delete Kindle.apk and got "kindle.apk cannot be deleted". Tried a few other bloatware apps and ditto, cannot be deleted.

Crud, this now messed up Titanium Backup, it hangs on the "asking for root rights" screen indefinitely. I re-ran the above tool again it hardbooted my PC

I think the best option is to flash a ROM, that guarantees it will work.

You may need to get the remount app to mount the drive in writeable mode, its one thing I had to do after my recent root. Also tools like ESFile Explorer need to have settings changed to be able to edit files i root. That tripped me up. So far everything works except for wireless hotspot but that deserves its own thread.

Anywho, it is fairly painless and doesnt take very long to run.

Uhoh really? Where's that thread? For the hotspot is the primary reason I want to root - save $$ since htc blocks apps from hotspotting it. I thought after root, an app like foxfi would work...

    Thanks!

EasyTeather works WITHOUT rooting. I bought that app last year and it works fine, you just need to be plugged in with the USB cable to the PC.
