Here is the log - I am allowed to decompile/edit/compile/extract/zip/sign and install the twitter.apk but I can't get past the sign-in process without a force close

could be wrong here but it looks to me like you only brought the script over from 4.9 and not the "other" folder.

your zipalign tool is not there, your testsign.jar may be jacked or/and your apktool is not the correct version.

I just renamed it 4.9.5 to keep it separate from the original 4.9 I had - this is the version from the thread you linked earlier

question...what is the color code for transparency? i know that sounds noobish, but is it as simple as changing the color code? or are there other edits that need to be done?

#00000000 but there are more edits just changing something to transparent will still end up with a black background....it needs to be pointed to your wallpaper which is done by changing theme.(whatevers) to theme.Wallpaper in some areas. Some apps are easier than others

One more quick question and thanks for your patience. Is it every instance of Theme.whatever or just some? I'm trying to do Gtalk and here's what i see:
