Is there a quick way to refresh the contents of the SD card?

I am putting test icons onto my phone but sometimes the SD card doesn't refresh and I have to reboot, which is a royal PITA. Any way to hit F5 basically and get it to pick up the images I just put on the SD?

Not sure if this is an issue with my file or the program, but it refreshes and the placeholder shows in the gallery...but you can't see a thumbnail and when you click the screen is just black.
