Theming help

I would like to theme the naked version of the rom team chaos made. I have the android sdk and adb running. I actually figured out how to use adb after like a month of trying tonight. My goal would be to theme the whole thing and maybe after I get more knowledge build a rom from the umbrella of addy or another devs source that lets me use it. I really want to get into the customization aspect of all of this as I see myself being in he android community for while. The more info anyone has to further enlighten me is greatly appreciated. I think with my creative skills I could make some things that would make me happy and hopefully a few other anroid users too while I was at it.

It's late tonight I spent the night messing with the new rom. I am going to start after work tomorrow. Honestly I am kind of a blank slate. I don't really know what it takes to theme a rom and further more building one at all. Besides the android sdk and adb what programs do i use for all of this I have eclipse too and gimp if that helps. I have heard of people mentioning hex editor or something too. This is going to be done on my vista 64 bit laptop until I get a linux pc in the future. My longterm goal would be to like I said make a rom that was customized from the "m'' logo and boot animation to custom drawer icons and notification and pretty much whatever else I could change. Sorry for the long posts, but I am going to bed and since I had a reply already I thought I'd give people some time to answer my plethora of newb questions. Thanks for being the most helpful forum I have seen.

You can also install Linux in a dual boot configuration on your Vista x64 laptop

thank you for those links I have been looking for something like that for a while now. That is too much for me to start out on I think. Does anybody know where a similar write up on theming or something easier. Honestly the more dumbed down the better for me now. I am very much a blank slate. The only two open source things I have really ever messed with is PS3 linux and Android. I haven't developed anything yet and really don't know where to begin I would like to start with something simple.

Well I think a theme is the perfect place to start. But thats bgill neck of the woods. So if you want elaboration. He's the man to ask.

Maybe next time someone makes a theme they could post a write up? I'm just getting nowhere every time I think i figure something out I wind up even further off task.

Some apps that I use for theming are as follows.

7zip - For opening .apks with out renaming
Paint.net - Use this a lot for making hue changes quickly
colorChangev3.jar - This is used to change color to the notifaction text
xUltimate - Great app by X that will do many things in one.

Of course there is the draw9 patcher and eclipse. I myself have not used eclipse. Other then giving info I can't tell you exactly what threads to look at. Wish there was a section that had great threads on how to's for themes.
