Probably not going to pursue ROM Manager anymore. It was more of a hassle than I think it was worth, and its just one more thing to add to my plate that I cant deal with. My current progress on Steel Droid is slowing down a little. I have other projects, life, work, things like that. And to be totally honest, for example, my GNex builds, since the latest release v3.85, they have only been downloaded 36 time (14 unthemed, 22 themed). I used to get several thousand downloads for various devices I support on a regular basis, but it appears Steel Droid just isnt as popular as it once one, and/or the Android scene is taking a direction that Im not generally headed. I will probably NOT develop for any new devices.
Im not asking for everyone to pitch in a donation, but to be totally honest, I dont really make anywhere near enough in donations to offset the amount of time I spend on my ROM work (which I could otherwise be spending at a full time, paying job. Dont get me wrong, I love making ROMs, and seeing what I can do, but Im at a crossroads. Do I continue development (even though it will be slow), or do I move on?
I really dont know what to do. Ive done a lot of scene-jumping in the past 10 years. Comptuers -> Gameboy modding -> Music composing -> Software hacking -> Sony PSP hacking/modding -> Nintendo DS modding -> Sony PSP hacking/modding again -> Computer modding and custom towers -> PSP hacking/modding yet again -> PS3 hacking/modding AND Android development (doing both right now).
And thats just in the past 10 years (since I got out of high school). I think Im just overwhelmed, and need to sort out what I want to do....input?

I know, things in the android world change almost everyday now, I just got back on vzw prepaid with my d1 and your rom was the first I saw that was up to date, and its so smooth and buttery, I was helping r2doesinc testing and running our irc til he moved on to other things, so I'm lookin for something to keep me busy too, but all I have is a phone now, I sold my laptop to get a place for my family, just hate to see one of the last devs for my beloved d1 disappear, if I could help more I will

Im not really leaving, but development will definitely slow down. Im a little frustrated that I lost all my source to my latest SteelBox revision. Im not sure how I even put that together anymore. lol SteelBox may disappear, and be replaced by something else. I dont know what yet, but Im still thinking about it. I can make a build on 7.2.0, but it wont have the SteelBox in it that everyone knows as being current. Its a little outdated, but still functional (for the most part). Id rather release something thats know working and up-to-date.

Chevycam,
You've done a lot of great work and with the barage of devices that are released lately its hard to keep up. I think the diehard fans of yours are the ones out there still lingering on the older devices. I'm up for renewal but I haven't seen anything that has made me want to run out and buy it, so the D1 is where I'll stay for a while I believe. I've been working with Cush2push to compile some ICS builds for the D1, which I think runs great on the D1, but there are challenges I hope to over come if possible.
Of course I have a real job and real life that occupies most of my time as well so I completely understand what you are saying. I have been running Steel Droid for some time now, as my daily phone and appreciate all of the effort you put into it building this ROM. I look forward to your 10.6 release whenever that may be. Thank you!

+1trillion. Couldn't agree more. Chevy has kept this nearly 3 year old OG device running better than when I took it out of its box. That is extremely unfortunate that the newest steel box source just up n disappeared. Hopefully there's still a place you haven't looked, and its not gone forever. That's just me being optimistic I suppose, and if its truly gone then we must face the facts. I loved the fact how it kept all the build.prop mods all in one neatly tidy place![]()
If there's anything I can do myself I'll be more than happy, believe me if I had any kinda funds that aren't subjected to overdraft fees I'd be more than willing to share my wealth. Unfortunately I have none, but I won't forget whenever I do. Whatever that's worth

In all honesty I can't keep up with roms, there is over 30 roms for the Gnex, I was actually going to be switching over to your latest I've been away from Droid forums since Rootzwiki is constantly updated, even then I need something stable without any issues and I know you are were to go, You have done so much for all of us, I truly believe in quality over quantity there may be millions of roms but I don't particulary like it, I liked with the D1 how there was a good 10 roms and they all updated them every other month so getting a new release was always exciting and you would not have to flash something new every week. I never thought I'd be complaining about the fact there is too many roms and I can not keep up with them, I truly believe your Gnex rom is all I need right now. lol and my sig is outdated still.

Thank you. I try to make my work as good as possible. I may not have a ROM that's as advanced as other ROMs, but I try to keep my stuff simple, but feature rich. I believe there is a point of too much, and too little.Originally Posted by Durandgir
I will make a GNex ROM update in the next couple days, and get it out to the public. Its my biggest work right now.....but its also the least downloaded of all my ROMs.
My D1 ROM is still #1, but since my source for SteelBox got clobbered, I've been reluctant to replace it with anything else, as I'm not sure people will take the change very well, and might dislike the ROM after that. I don't want to disappoint anyone, but it might be inevitable.

If time, recognition and donations are an issue, have you ever thought about joining or making a rom development team? It seems like some of the most popular roms all have teams to work together and get more done with less individual time and effort (like liquid, sourcery and cyanogenmod)
Or another possibility is doing something few are doing but isn't incredibly hard depending on how far you take it- building using linaro toolchain, a -2 build really doesn't break anything like a -3 does
I mean liquid is working hard on a -3 and people are jumping at getting beta and rc builds of it, and I know the aokp and cm 9 linaro builds are/were very popular too
