Crap. First time on the forum in a month or so, and it's to 'carp'... Big complaint, like others have mentioned, is that I'm stuck in 4G mode. Luckily, there's little 4G around here (Carson City, NV), and my job as a truck driver takes me out where I'm sometimes lucky to have 1G! But, I remember finding that my phone used considerably less power if I just used it in 3G mode. Now, when I'm home (and on the road!), I've got to worry about charging the phone cuz I'm stuck in 4G (or the constant search for 4G). I've seen that link that is supposed to give you a way to lock into 3G, but darn it... I'm used to just clicking on that little 4G button on my front page and swapping back and forth at will. Why in the heck do I have to use some convoluted, time wasting chain of events to make it do what one press used to do? I thought this was an 'upgrade', making my phone better, not harder to work. Grrrrr.![]()

Yes, it works, but the phone goes back to the LTE/CDMA default setting each time you reboot.![]()
Personally, I think this is one of Verizon's new "features" to force everyone to use their 4G network to relieve 3G congestion. The thing is that 3G is just fine most of the time, especially while it's sitting idle in my pocket.
Regarding battery life on ICS.... I'm not impressed at all. As an understudy of Professor FoxKat, I've taken great care of my battery -- it was darn near perfect on GB. As soon as I installed ICS, the battery ran down so fast that I barely got to play with it. Absolutely horrible. So I did a FDR earlier today, shut it down, and then stuck it on the charger for several hours until full. I'm hoping for much better results tomorrow.
I'm having the same problem with my RAZR. On Gingerbread, I would get a day of light to moderate use. Since I updated to ICS, battery life sucks. I didn't even use my phone yesterday except to make one call and send/receive about six texts, only to wake up this morning to find it dead. I think I even had it on the charger for a little while yesterday during the day. My wife's RAZR seems to be fine. Who the hell wants to factory reset because an update jacked their phone? This is my first smart phone and not happy. So much so that iPhone is looking pretty damn good right now.

Nothing is perfect, even the precious iPhone needs help once in awhile.
You say this is your first smart phone so maybe you just aren't aware that a hard reset is an occasional fact of life with these devices. I've chosen to not go for the ICS update as I'm quite happy with GB and status quo.but that said if I was updating I'd most definitely be doing a hard reset back to factory. It can solve a whole slew of issues. Just back up what you can and go for it. It's not the end of the world and may make your phone run much smoother.
So, I left my phone on the charger all night last night. Starting out at 100%. I'm curious (read that scared!) to see how long I get out of the phone today. I'd consider myself a 'moderate' user, though I've been messing with it more in the last day since I got the ICS upgrade.
Too bad you can't go back, huh.....![]()
