    Switch from RAZR to GNex?

I'm a current RAZR owner, and my wife's contract is up. I have the choice of getting a Galaxy Nexus with the upgrade or sticking with the RAZR (she'll get a RAZR either way). I'm looking for reasonable arguments for the Galaxy Nexus. I'm a long time Android user and a very informed user, so I'm really looking for usage impressions. Anyone who's had both, please chime in!

In short: convince me how the GNex is superior to the RAZR. I love my RAZR, but I'm an Android/Google fan first; Motorola is consequential.

I feel like the Galaxy Nexus and the Razr Maxx are a better comparison than the original Droid Razr. Just my opinion. Are you interested in rooting and ROMs, Kernels, etc.? If so I say it's a no brainer to get the Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus is also running Android's newest OS in its stock, non skinned form. Stock Android is what I prefer. Nexus devices are also among the first to be updated to newer OS versions for Android (Jelly Bean?). I personally think the Nexus program is the opitome of how Google intends for Android to be. The best thing to do is try them both out in store and see which you like better.

Here's the deal, as it stands the RAZR doesn't run ICS. When it does get the over the air update to ICS, it will most likely be the better phone. That said, the screen on the nexus is a little better but call quality and 4g lte connectivity are supposed to be better on the RAZR. Also, if you have the option to get the MAXX, battery life will be unbeatable. But as the person above me stated, if rooting and putting custom roms on your phone is your thing, the Gnex is the phone for you. Personally though, the RAZR maxx us the better phone. Especially when we finally get the update to ICS. THEN AGAIN if custom romming is your thing, you can already get a very stable and complete version of ICS on the RAZR. Just something to think about.

ROMs are important to me and you can't go wrong with the Nexus, though other phones have quite a few good choices of ROMs themselves. Another comparison I would make is the screen, the Nexus screen is just beautiful, probably the best screen on Verizon's current lineup imo (Rezound comes a close second to me). When I was looking at the Razr I wasn't a fan of the screen quality, it might've been the unit itself, but it was a dealbreaker for me.

What do you use your phone for mainly? If you're not into ROMs, the Nexus is still a great phone stock and it seems 4.0.4 is on the way, which brings some significant improvements (there's a leak out already if you want to do it manually). There were some things to be desired in stock form, at least for me, and my current ROM has addressed that.

You already know the Razr quite well so why not grab the Nexus and try it out for the 14 day trial period! For me I have to bring a product home and live with it to really know if I like it. I will say the Nexus is a reeeeally smooth experience!

RAZR MAXX. I am sending my Gnex back to VZW. Tech is sending me a MAXX to replace my gnex. Its such a great unit (Gnex) but even with the leaked update (May 1st 4.0.4) the 4G/3G sucks and I loose calls left and right.

Battery tanks very quickly. 6hrs with barely any use.

If they fix the gnex's downfalls in the next update I will buy one again immediately. Just does not work for someone that uses there smartphone as a phone and lifeline for business etc....

Thanks for the input, all. The usage stuff is really helpful (for the specs and OS stuff, I already know all about it). Right now I'm leaning towards the RAZR. Just went to a Verizon store and the RAZR had the faster connection and stronger signal (signal, mind, not bars; best signal in the shop was the Bionic, oddly). The ppi difference on the screens is a non-issue for me; I can only see a difference at 2" away with static text.

The admonition to test drive one sounds like a great idea; love me some hands on data. Anyone use both regularly and prefer the Nexus?

I can tell you that I was going all out to get the GNex but when I went to the store to test them out the RAZR won hands down. Sure the screen us beautiful on the nexus. And maybe down the line I will pick one up to play with and have when all the bugs are worked out. I love my Maxx. Best phone I've ever had. Great signal, fast and smooth. Battery life is amazing and the roms out there aren't too shabby. With ICS becoming official soon its a nice machine. I'm currently running the leak and I think it's amazing. My 2 cents
