Help: It won't load pics sent through gmail. & other email ?'s

My brother sent pics of the kids to my gmail account so I could easily put them on my phone but when I click open and/or save I get the thinking circle. The circle went around and around and nearly ran out my battery.

Is there something special I need to do to get pictures out of an email?

Also, is there a way to select all in the email setting? So I can delete all emails quickly?

And is there a way to refresh or check for new email easily on all 5 of my email accounts?

I can't wait until I have time to read about the rooting thing. Headed out of town for today but sometime I will see what that is all about.
Still loving this phone but have a few things to figure out yet.
