Does Verizon check for root on trade in?

After multiple unsuccessful attempts at rooting my Fascinate, Im left with an unrooted phone and Superuser app in my app list. Im unable to remove it and Im going to trade in the phone for a Droid X when I can find one. I don't want to go through the trouble of trying to take it off, with a factory reset it blends right in to the other bloatware apps installed...do they turn on the phone and look at it, do they specifically look for things like that?

Just keep it a few more days. You have 30 to exchange it. By that time they're will be a way to remove SuperUser.

The answer is Yes/No, depends on how much they want to be a prick about it. When my microUSB jack broke on my 1st D1, I took it into the store and the guy noticed the Ninja right away, and told me "Warranty Voided," I then went into counter-prick mode and went into the "Do you know how long I've been a customer here?" routine, asked for a manager who pulled up a 13 year history, and I was issued a replacement with no further problem.

Personally I hate having to pull that card because I work in customer service, and I feel for the guys on the otherside of the counter, so my suggestion is, if you can find a way to remove it, do so...

Technically, if the Verizon tech/rep that you hand you phone into knows what they're looking at, they'll know you've rooted the phone and therefor voided your warranty.

You could remove it if you were rooted...... j/k.

Would you consider keeping the Fascinate if you could successfully root it?

    Unhappy

i got a fascinate yesterday on lunch-day and i hated that it did not have google, I hated it's ui, and a hated that the gps was f#%& up. so i tried to root it and as with you i ended up with a sad face and a unrooted phone with the the super user app or whatever its called. so what i did is move the super user app to right in the middle of all the bloat wear and tied to swap it for a dx . the Verizon guy spent 15min looking all over the phone for scratches and looking thu the entire phone. but the store was getting busy and manager took the phone from the guys hand and activated a brand new droid x for me and my sad face went away. so if you don't like it then just hide super user in a cluster of bloght wear apps. now i am going to go play around with my dx and i wish you luck in whatever your do with it

Just install Launcher Pro. It has the ability to hide program icons. There's noylthing about having a different launcher voiding your warranty and with Launcher Pro hiding the Super User icon, no one will be the wiser.

If you do a factory reset it will get rid of the Superuser.apk
