What are you going to do if your phone gets messed up in a couple days? Pay some more money?

Its quite easy to root. Read these forums and you'll understand everything sooner or later.

+1. Can't speak for the nook but there are very simple rooting instructions on this forum. You need to known what you're doing if you're going to be performing root functions on your phone.

"You need to known what you're doing if you're going to be performing root functions on your phone."

    that's the bottom line.

let's face it, some of the posters here sound as if they started rooting in the delivery room after the doctor smacked them on the bottom.

and that's good, because you guys are a true font of information.

    thank you!

but since you can potentially ruin your phone (which, thankfully, EVERYONE on this board cautiously points out), if you don't have the time to invest in understanding at least part of the root process or money to put down for a new phone, you might be better off either leaving it as is or getting someone more knowledgeable to do it.

if i used my Fascinate as a phone, i probably would not have rooted. for me, the Fascinate is an internet device/media player only and since Verizon won't upgrade Fascinate over wifi (right?), i rooted.

after reading various forums for days and finally wading thru a 50 page thread here, i did root my Fascinate. my 2.2.1 is a little glitchy and i still have that blue recovery screen for some reason, but i'm satisfied--for now.

but trust me, the process takes time to understand and can be a little scary...

Nuch, do it yourself....read everything until you grasp it and experiment with your phone. What sounds better when your bragging to your buddies:

"I paid some guy to root my phone"

    or

"I just rooted the crap out of my phone and it only took me 15 minutes."

terminology can be tricky but once you get the lingo down, your set man...and that is a start buddy.

Good luck on what ever path you choose.

You could royally screw up your fascinate if you don't know what you are doing (voodoo/non-vodoo, hitting the wrong button in odin, etc.). You should definitely do your research an do it yourself, so you can fix things if something goes wrong. Rooting is nice but there are a lot of different variables, and once you get use to things it becomes second hand.

Nook is a little different because if that gets screwed up you can boot from a bootable sdcard.
