"Rooting" is the same as administrative access on a PC not quiet the same as jailbreak.
What all does it allow you to do?

Np dude but if u r thinking about rooting read read read all u can don't just go into it not knowing what's going on you can really mess up your phone.

That's cool it great thing if u like making your phone Your phone but also it great to fixing alot of stuff u want to fix on the phone like I have 2.2 on here differnt keyboard and a sweet theme so I love this phone.

Battery history wipe o you can get that out of box feeling again, wifi tether, boot animations, anything you can imagine. The reason big step brother Samsung and whoever else don't like it because roms are made by 3rd party trusted people, and of course bloatware goes away too. Rooting gives you authority, jailbreaking is for cheap people who don't want to pay apple [or Droid users who don't want to give money xD..] but its a lot of fun to play with your phone and have froyo.
