    sync of calendar will not finish and...

    it screwed up my calendars on google. multiple duplicate and tripled entries.

    I gave up syncing google calendar with any phones. The same thing happened to me when I tried syncing my google calendar with my Windows Mobile Phone and when I got this Android phone. I really believe google is culprit here and not the phone. Try deleting the Google calendar and re syncing. Good luck
