Tripod adaptor

Hi, I want to take some videos of me training my dog, I need to have my camera on a tripod, I can't hold it. All the ones I've looked at just have a spring loaded slide deal that holds it in place, from what I've read it's not very secure at all.
Is there an adapter that you can screw down to hold your camera or something like that?

I was looking at this one, http://www.phoneboat.com, but then I started looking at reviews. Some users had their phone fall off because of the simple spring holder. I'd like something more substantial.
