A question with the Hyperion Extended battery for Droid Charge?

I'm not entirely certain this is the proper place to ask this, and I apologize if not, but I couldn't find any answers elsewhere and no luck getting a swift reply from Hyperion, so I figured I would turn to the professionals!

I recieved my Hyperion extended battery for the Droid Charge today, and was wondering if it would matter/negatively effect the battery if I charged the battery outside of the phone with a wall adapter instead of inside the phone? I knew that the battery would obviously require the phone to be put into down time for it's first charge, but 12 hours is a bit too long to have my phone off with no other phone in home, and with sick family members that constantly need me.

More or less just curious is this is a good move.

Sorry if it's a lame question but this is my first extended battery and I'd rather not mess it up. (:
