Question about update

This is my first and last Samsung. I like a company that actually cares about their customers and actually gives updates. The experience with the Charge has left a sour taste in my mouth. Once I can upgrade again I will probably go back to Motorola or maybe HTC

I just read on the "Charge forum" that vzw is saying this will take up to two weeks to complete! LOL!

I'm with you. Updates are important for security and performance. If this is the best samsung can do, I'm jumping ship.

And just read 1000 went OTA at 12:00 today, another 19,000 at 9:00 pm tonight- and the rest Thu and Fri. So we'll get it this week for sure!

I got tired of waiting (I've been hitting "System Update" button every hour), so I did the manual update that XDA Developers has

I've been running it for about 30 minutes, so I can't give a full review, but here's my initial impression

1. Speed - Seeing a bit of a boost in terms of speed on the device. Web browsing is snappier. The Nook app seems to flip through pages faster. Same goes for scrolling through mail. The big test for me was NYCMate, which has NYC transit maps. It still scrolls poorly though the subway maps, whereas it scrolls perfectly on my 3rd gen iPod Touch. But, who knows - it could be poor coding of the app.

2. GPS - it's raining where I am, so I didn't walk around, but I didn't see the "instant lock" that others have talked about. But it did seem to lock faster than before. The compass seems to be more accurate as well. I see an icon in apps called AngryGPS that I never noticed before.

3. Connectivity - I'm locking into 4G in a location that was tough to get it before.

4. Color scheme - never really minded the Orange/Brown look, but some people do. It's still there. The icons in the drop down window are now white on blue, and they turn green when active. When reaching the end while scrolling, it glows orange; I don't remember if it used to bounce back like on an iPhone, but now it glows orange - possibly due to the Apple lawsuit. In Mail, my Hotmail icon is now the Windows Icon. The download icon is now a thin green arrow.

5. Battery - way too early to tell. This morning, I had it on for an hour with nothing going - no data, didn't turn on the screen, no calls. It went down 10%. After an hour with Gingerbread, it also went down 10%, but I used GPS for a few minutes, had the screen on and off for maybe 15 minutes, used Wi-Fi and 4G for a few minutes each.

So with the little I've done in the past hour, things are looking better for the Charge.

So who got the OTA yesterday? and I don't mean the SDcard way of updating?

I stopped by a verizon store yesterday evening to ask about the charge update and the salesman behind a desk stated "I have not heard of any update for Droid Charge and oh..google will be sending you directly to your phone"...ha..ha..poor boy does not even know the relation between google, samsung and verizon for the software issues..never ever buy anything from verizon store based on information by a verizon salesman..
