contact backup

I have contacts that won't backup from my phone to gmail.I think it's because they are not saved as a gmail address and only saved as a phone address. Anyone know how to convert them to gmail account contacts? I have about 175 contacts and I'd hate to have to redo them...

I have contacts that sync to my gmail without having email addresses. Make sure you have sync to gmail selected in you're contacts.

Thanks for the quick reply. Realized they don't need a gmail address but when you create a new contact it asks you if you want to save it as a phone contact or a gmail contact. All the ones saved as gmail sync to gmail all the rest don't.

Save them all as gmail contacts and they'll all show up there. I do this primarily as a easy to easily store my contacts so if I have to get a new phone, they are all automatically imported to my contacts.

Mine does it all automatically. I'll see if I can find some additional settings when I get a chance. If I get a phone call and add a name to it, out displays out on my PC.

Make sure you go into settings, accounts, gmail and have them marked to sync there as well.

Can you do a bulk save of the contacts so they all are linked to gmail? As I looked at the contacts the only ones that back up have a G next to them.

Personally i would also export all your contacts once there in google into cvs or equivalent file as backup that way you can load contacts onto another device or programs like outlook. Plus if google loses you data you have a backup. Unlikely but you never now.
