Spell check... am I missing something?

Recently switched from AT&T iPhone 4 to the Verizon Droid Charge. LOVE the 4G speeds and honestly, not dropping calls every few minutes is a dream come true.

However, one thing that this phone seems to be really missing is the ability for spell check on SMS and emails... or am I missing something? I am a horrible speller and type pretty fast and often, with my fat fingers, hit the wrong key.

I've downloaded a few apps, but not interested in typing a message into a 3rd party text area, then copy/paste into the SMS or email box. I recently downloaded SwiftKey X and found it to be more annoying then useful.

Is there any hope? Unfortunately, this might be a game changer for me :frown:

Look in Settings>Language & Keyboards>On board keyboard settings. I have checked quick fixes, show suggestions, and auto-complete

Under XT9 advanced settings, the following are checked:

word completion
spell correction
next word prediction
auto-append
auto-substitution
regional correction
recapture

basically EVERY open. I spent hours messing with this and still nothing. I use Gmail and corporate email, neither one seem to work with spell check.

I factory reset the phone twice, uninstalled everything I could and still no spell check

And you are using the XT9 Keyboard and not Swype, right? Swype will spell check too when swyping words, but won't when doing the hunt-peck type method (unless you turn on an option under Swype settings.)

If you're using the XT9 keyboard, then yes, it should pop up suggestions as you type. FWIW, I found the keyboard app on the Samsung Charge lacking in comparison to Motorola and HTC. Just one of the many reasons I returned my Charge. ;)

Yeah I have the Samsung keyboard on, but if i miss a word, it doesnt underline it or anything

It does it as you type, not underlined or anything. Watch the interface as you type. Should give suggestions.

yeah Ive noticed that... just miss the red underline when you spell something wrong from the iPhone

Try out some of the other "free" keyboards from the marketplace.
I like "Better Keyboard 8" so far because the keys are larger and I don't keep hitting the placement of that gear symbol when I hit the period.

Many like the "Keyboard from Android 2.3" or the "Gingerbread Keyboard"

You can download them and turn them on or off whenever you want.

That's the beauty of a Droid, you are not "forced" to use anything. Like when I had my former Blackberry 9650 and we were stuck using Bing as web search engine!
