Menu key when in system recovery

Curious.

I'm waiting for my replacement from VW to arrive since it seems the Verizon Mobile update messed everything up (to where a factory reset doesn't even work).

Just now, I was in the system recovery mode trying to see if there are any hidden controls, and I hit the Menu key, and an image of a white box with a yellow arrow coming out of it to the green Android dude popped up. Doesn't seem to do anything else, just holds that image until I hit the menu key again.

Any ideas what this is?

thats the update droid, not sure why it came up on menu.

ed1 or ed2 doesnt matter, on boot the ee4 update will be waiting.
its 100% stock so they wouldnt know you did anything.
i would do a factory reset then pull the battery before it boots, put it back in and
enter recovery again and wipe the cache and format the sd card, then pull the battery again, put it back in and proceed to flash from my post.

how the heck did you get it in to recovery mode i cant even get it i just keep getting download mode
