    Speeding up the Charge

I went to the verizon store today and had a chance to play around with the Charge. I loved the screen, but I do have a few worries. The touch response lagged (which I find unbearable after using an iPod Touch 24/7) and website browsing had those gray/white boxes appearing whenever I moved around the sites. These boxes did not appear on the Revo (same 4g connection same site).

I have read that putting a different launcher fixes the lag, but what about the gray boxes on the browser? Could I just download a different browser to use and avoid the issue? If I were to get the phone I would not feel comfortable rooting, so please take that into consideration.

    Thanks!

When you get the charge just use the voodoo lagfix

Before I installed the voodoo lag fix, I also installed a different launcher and it was not as slow. I think the TW and other Samsung widgets.

    Hope this helps.

A different launcher (adw) and turning off all window animations got rid of most of the lag. I did the voodoo fix which improved the quadrant score.

What kind of scores are you getting after the lagfix?

Not trying to hijack here, but I am new to android. What is a different launcher? What will they do, etc? I am having some lag issues as well with my 1week old Charge.

You can download a Free or Paid Launcher from the Market.

    Launcher Pro is my choice.

    ADW Launcher

    Go Launcher EX

These are real popular. Launcher is basically replacing your dock bar.... and home screens... and app menu.

It makes your phone look and feel different.... from the "desktop"

After install hit your home button and you will have a popup ask what launcher you want to use.

Give them all a try. They all are good.... but you can have different preferences / features with each one.

I stick with LP because of the 5 to 15 shortcuts on the dock bar. Cleans up my home screen for apps I always use. Also each shortcut can lead into 2 different apps for a total of 30 apps. NO more clutter.

    Faster too

If you ever want to change your default ..... go into applications menu ... mange apps.... and clear defaults for the launcher you installed.

Do not clear Data.... no need to.... only Defaults.

Voodoo lagfix does a great job of boosting performance by changing the file system from rfs to ext4. Samsung sticks to rfs and everyone else uses ext4 which is faster, hence the speed bump. You must also remember to disable voodoo before factory resetting your charge. You can do that by rebooting into CWM Recovery that is included by jt1134's root/kernel/cwm package.
