For my phone usage, the only reason I can think of to want a dual core would be if there were specific apps that required it that I wanted to run...since virtually none exist at the moment, that's a bit "what-if" game...

My phone use is, in rough order of importance/frequency:

    1. Email
    2. Calendar
    3. Podcasts/stream FM
    4. Social (FB, Twitter, etc.)
    5. Maps/Navigation
    6. Browsing
    7. Texts
    8. Calls
    9. Videos (Netflix)
    10. Various utility apps (e.g., shopping list, Droid Root Explorer, etc.)

I see no need for a dual core in my use pattern, and believe that the majority of phone users are in a similar situation...dual core is marketing, the next cool feature, and I'd be happy to have it if they solve the heat and other issues, but in no way worth waiting for for me or the majority of smartphone users.

What? Its been pushed back to Nov/ Dec?? Oh, lord!

The Bionic will be using a Cortex A9 Dual core 1Ghz cpu...
    http://www.arm.com/products/processo.../cortex-a9.php

The Charge uses a Cortex A8 1Ghz single core
    http://www.arm.com/products/processo.../cortex-a8.php

From the looks of it, the A9 uses more power... .5 watts @ 800Mhz and the A8 uses .3 watts at 1ghz...

    Hmm....I'm right!
    Cortex a9. ........lolololol
Go back to your cave, troll.

No the majority android user does not put "calendar" as a top 3 reason to own a phone, sounds like you be better at home with a Nook or a Kindle since your top 4 can be done on those devices. Dual core isn't a "feature" its an essential hardware spec if you plan on signing another 2 year contract. I'm not gonna debunk YOUR needs of YOUR phone, but I will argue that if what you consider the "majority smartphone user" cares more about what day it is then making calls or navigation then they should not own a smartphone all together. Apps will take advantage of multiple cores before the year is out, then you will see the difference your next podcast. I can bet the average android user puts calls, text, internet, and applications as number one, followed by rooting.
Maybe if this was 2007 you would be right but things change...and drastically quick in the tech world

The question is do u want to future proof your phone or run on todays standard?

It'll be atleast 1-2 years before single core start to phase out. Hell in terms of desktop computers people are still using dual cores and not jumping on quad core which is becoming more of a standard. Software imo is THAT behind of the current technology, that's why most people just stay with what they have. Eventually yes dual core phones will phase out single core for sure, just doesn't really matter at the present time. Most phones that are being released are still running froyo which is 1 year + old by now? Some say froyo take advantage of the dual core, but that is quite doubtful. All phones definately should be coming out with GB already, and god knows when icecream sandwhich is going to be pushed out.

The only time I want more cpu power I when I run a quadrant. The rest of time, i'll take a faster network connection or faster flash access/commits or a better camera, or a even a better screen. Or just MAYBE a longer battery life.

It possible to have good battery, dual core, high ram, and 4mbs internet speed. Just look at the Motorola Atrix. Single core seems like enough now, but by this winter a single core phone will be limited, unless you maybe have a large amount of Ram. The newer apps, web browsers, OS's, home replacement launchers and more will be taking advantage of the new technology (just think Sense 3.0), there is a reason why Sense 3.0 may not come to the TB.

    Droid Charge

Hey Bro, I have the Droid Charge, the only huge difference between the Bionic and the Charge is the Bionic will be Duel Core, and the Charge is single.

Honestly the phone is ok. But that just my opinion, If the phone had a keyboard the the Samsung Epic 4G, then I might do a moonwalk.. But its up too you.

If you think you should wait for a better phone for the future. I know they will have a better phone in the next few months, its just that I am so impatient. However I still have about 12 left to return my phone. So we will see, Hope This Helps.

The bionic won't have the super amoled plus screen Although admittedly the bionic will have a faster processor and likely more RAM.
