My Droid (stock, not rooted) had a small amount of beer dripped on it last night. I did not realize it until this morning, and the phone was on the charger all night.
Good news is that nothing smoked or caught on fire.
I first noticed something was wrong when it was turned off then wouldn't boot completely. Pulled the back cover off, and saw droplets of beer around the battery and in the phone. Both dots are red. Pulled the battery out and dried everything off with a towel. Left it out to air dry all day, and tried to turn it on when I got home. (I have since read Drying a Droid the Right Way and know this was probably a bad move to make.)
It will not boot using battery power alone, but when it is plugged in it will make it as far as the welcome screen and recognizing the signal from Verizon before re-booting again. It goes into perpetual re-boot mode, cycling over and over again. I can get to the hard reset menu, but I have not restored it to factory settings yet.
If I do a hard reset and return it to factory settings, is there a chance it will work regularly again?
Right now I am operating under the assumption that:
- The beer shorted something out
- The alcohol bath recommended by medicTHREE has a slight chance of cleaning the gunk out and restoring my phone to working order
- I may have already killed my phone and will need to replace it. I do not have insurance on it.
Seeing it able to boot gave me hope that not all is lost. Just incredibly bad timing because I am leaving town tomorrow for a week and would prefer to have my (working) phone with me.
Additional ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
