Just got my new, er, factory refurbished replacement droid. Do I have to wait for all the apps to download before I root again or can I root before everything is downloaded? Presumably titanium will restore everything, right?

With the release of Froyo, I have found that the best way to proceed (with a 'new' phone and/or after a factory data reset) is to sign back into your google account and then LEAVE THE PHONE ALONE. Leave it alone still after the sync icon goes away. Do NOT even TOUCH your phone again until you have the "xxx Applications Restored" message in your notification bar. This will lead to a more harmonious outcome.
good luck

for the clockwork recovery guide, can we keep it plugged in or does it have to stay out?
If your battery is sufficiently charged, you don't HAVE to keep it plugged in, and you should get through the process just fine. But I tend to like to play things more conservatively there, and keep it plugged in as much as possible. Those recovery "programs" suck battery life pretty good, so if you get stuck for whatever reason, or have to leave it for a bit or anything along those lines, your battery could drop pretty quick, and then you're potentially stuck completely with no phone until you find somewhere to plug in again and get it charged up to the point where it's usable.
But, disclaimers aside, generally speaking you should be fine if you start out with a full charge or close to it!
Edit... did I understand your question right?

ok, thanks for making this guide jntdroid. i was sick of all this rooting crap and couldnt put up with it anymore. id rather be back to the crappy slow unrooted droid and be safeit was decent while it lasted. its nice that i actually found out what it meant to be rooted. also, can i delete all the .zips from the roms and kernels and themes from being rooted off my sd and also can i delete the update.zip now that i did it?
