    Help Installing 4.2 keyboard.

The tittle says it all. I have read conflicting reports on how to do it. Some people say to just install the APK but that doesn't work for me. Other people say I have to flash it in recovery. I download a zip file but I don't know what to do next. I am rooted. Do I just boot into regular recovery and choose install update from SD Card? Or do I need safe strap? Thanks.

    Thanks for the links.

So, I was able to get these to work. Couple of things before diving in and trying this yourself. Keep in mind these are System apps, which means once they are successfully “Flashed/Installed”, they overwrite the original apps, which for most of us could be the Android Keyboard 4.1.1-41. By overwriting the original apps are gone, that is the 4.1.1 keyboard therefore becomes 4.2. Which I didn’t try this, AND I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ATTEMPTS, but I think it would work if you want to keep the originals, before flashing> go into Titanium Backup> and Uninstall the clock and/or keyboard, of course make sure there is a backup before uninstalling.

Basically, it seems that these can be installed either through Safestrap or Android Recovery System. With Safestrap just make sure you have the app, reboot> enter into recovery> install> (these zip downloads need to be saved to the root of the sd card.) find the zip and select it> reboot system once finished. If using the Android Recovery System, reboot device [Power+Volume Down] > at BLACK screen, hold [Power+Volume Up]> select Recovery> at dead android hold [Volume Up+VolumeDown] at the same time, select option to update from external card> find file select install and reboot. Note, since these are system apps, there is not going to be an indication on the Keyboard settings that it is a 4.2 keyboard and not a 4.1.1. The clock may be different, my clock is already disabled so, not really any interest in testing it out.

Thanks! Did you get this to work using both methods? Safe strap and regular recovery?

I just tried to install this using Android recovery and it failed/aborted. I placed it on the root of my SD Card. The external one. Was I supposed to place it in the root of the internal one? Or rename it update.zip?

    Re: Help Installing 4.2 keyboard.

I got an aborted message as well with recovery. Try Safestrap and save to the external sd card.

Got it installed through safe strap. The only thing I wish is that it would be as little bit taller like the stock RAZR HD keyboard. It's very nice. Thanks for your help!

I still have the stock RAZR HD keyboard by the way. It didn't overwrite it. I can use both. Bit i won't be going back to it!

Thread moved to Maxx HD section. Please do not post help or support threads in the development/hacking section.

OK... I thought it was in the right place since it deals with rooting/hacking.

It's no problem, the hacking forum would get super cluttered. It's easier for everyone if help/support threads are kept in the HD or Maxx HD sections. We'd like to keep the hacking/Development section for Root methods/Roms/Hacks.
