My phone navigation GPS/ Maps wouldn't work in the back woods of Vermont where there was no cell signal.
In order to get an accurate position, your GPS needs to lock onto at least 5 or 6 satellites and there are some places/remote areas where it is not possible to get a lock on enough satellites. Also make sure you have stand alone GPS enabled.
You can also install GPS essentials (or similar from play store) and it will show you which satellites are visible and which ones your using. In addition, running that app just once(or a similar one with same purpose), for some reason makes your gps work tons better.
