I have taken advice about getting apps that better do the job of standard apps, like handcent. Now I get two copies of each message. I text alot. Is there a way to temporarily or perrmanently disable the original (in case I don't want to keep the new one, etc.)?

Open the native app, goto menu, disable the notifications.

What Black said....a common complaint on here with an easy solution. Hands down, Handcent is the best for the Droid.
