New Droid User

I've had my Droid X for about a week -- and still have some questions.

Do I need to "root" it -- and what does this mean,

I have been trying to add contacts into different categories -- so I made a new group category and entered name in it but when I go to look up in this category it says nothing is listed and name appears under general phone contacts. Any idea what I'm doing wrong,

Also, what are the benefits of GO Launcher,

Welcome - you don't have to root your X but it will unlock the full potential of the device, we have many members here who choose not to root though, users preference -
