'The Social Network' teaser trailer on Facebook saga released

Jesse Eisenberg is the face of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg in "The Social Network."

    STORY HIGHLIGHTS

    • Film follows Mark Zuckerberg's online success and fallout with Eduardo Saverin
    • Facebook movie based on Ben Mezrich's novel "The Accidental Billionaires"
    • The short and simple teaser promises a juicy and riveting film

(CNN) -- A teaser trailer recently released by Columbia Pictures provides a brief glimpse at "The Social Network," Hollywood's take on Facebook that's scheduled for release in October.
The film, possibly better known as "The Facebook Movie," tracks the early days of the site that would grow to become, hands down, the biggest name in online social media.

It follows the apparently huge drama surrounding creator Mark Zuckerberg's online success and fallout with friend Eduardo Saverin.
Written by Aaron Sorkin, directed by David Fincher and starring Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg, the movie is loosely based on Ben Mezrich's novel "The Accidental Billionaires," (which is, in turn, loosely based on reality).

"Some have questioned why Facebook and its story was worthy of a film, let alone a film from A-level writers and directors," Mashable's Christina Warren wrote. "Well, think about just how much Facebook dominates the online communication space today. Now consider that it was started only six years ago.

"Its overwhelming success and the fact that it has become important enough to drive ongoing discussions regarding privacy and data ownership is indicative that it is a force."
The short and simple promises a juicy and riveting film. With bold, large text, Zuckerberg is heralded as a "punk," "genius," "prophet" and "billionaire," each statement emphasized by an ominous punctuation of sound and an appropriate voice-over.

"You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies," the trailer reads, promising a film that'll have some Facebook users wondering why they never knew anything about its history before.
"The film is as much an exploration of young people coming to terms with creating something bigger than themselves as much as it is about loyalty, jealousy and money," Warren wrote.

Now, the only question is, will it be more entertaining than ?

The Social Network: second trailer for the Facebook movie hits the webby Robin Wauters on July 8, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, the first trailer for the upcoming Facebook movie, The Social Network, hit the Web. Well lo and behold, a couple of hours ago the second trailer was released (embedded below). Remember, you saw it here first

The apocalyptic score remains, and the audio cuts from the movie you hear in the teaser are largely the same as in the first trailer, but this time conversations are played out like a chronological run-down of a Facebook news feed.
Best quote comes at the end: “You better lawyer up ’cause I’m coming back for everything.”

Sony Pictures - Previews & Clips - The Social Network

    (thanks for the tip, Sean!)

    Featured in the trailer are:

    - Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook co-founder and CEO)

    - Eduardo Saverin (co-founded Facebook during his last year of the Economics study at Harvard University. His departure from Facebook was the subject of subsequent legal action. He later won the right to have his name listed among the other founders in a lawsuit.)

    - Dustin Moskovitz (co-founder of Facebook – left the company in October 2008)
    - Marilyn Delpy (no idea who this is)

    - Erica Albright (no idea who this is, but according to the screenplay a girl Zuckerberg was dating a couple of years ago)

    - Divya Narendra (started ConnectU, the social network that sparked the idea for Facebook, with Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. ConnectU ended up suing Facebook for stealing the idea and using some of their source code.)
    - Christy Lee (no idea who this is)

    - Tyler Winklevoss (Together with his twin brother Cameron and Narendra, owns ConnectU, previously HarvardConnection. In 2004, ConnectU filed a lawsuit against Facebook alleging that Zuckerberg had broken an oral contract with them. The parties reached a confidential settlement agreement in February, 2008.)

    - Larry Summers (no idea who this is – update: ah Lawrence Summers, former President of Harvard University – thanks, commenter Greg!)

    - Sean Parker (In 2004, Parker began informally advising the creators of Facebook, and became its President when the company incorporated that same year. In 2006, Parker joined the Founders Fund, a venture capital fund based in San Francisco, as Managing Partner.)

    - Cameron Winklevoss (see above)
For those not in the know, The Social Network is a Columbia Pictures film based on Ben Mezrich’s book “The Accidental Billionaires, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal,” a story about the founding of Facebook. It hits theaters in October 2010.
