    Newbies and ROOT

With all the new android users I am seeing lots of newbies jumping the gun on rooting their devices. Geez it took me 3 months of reading before I got the nerve up. I am see razeRS, rezounds and Gnex topics left and right were the user had not made a nandroid of the stock OS and now are in panic mode.

Please please read and follow every step for your device. The nandroid backup is the most important step in any rooting process as it allows you to "start over" no matter what.

Even the simple task of freezing bloat or changing your boot animation could fubar your device.

Definitely reading goes a long ways...there are several good guides on the forum that will help tremendously. It is definitely a comfort factor but for some, I think it is the rush of gaining full access of the device.

Unfortunately I think these "one-click" solutions make it too easy. I'm all for these solutions, but when people see "one-click" they tend to ignore steps and end up getting in trouble.

kinda the same thing with rom manager. way too easy to just download a rom and flash it without knowing all of the ins and outs...

I was thinking this the other day. It took me a year to work up the nerve to root my og Droid. There are a lot of threads about how someone messed up there phone because they didn't understand what they were doing.

I just rooted my Droid razr. I only rooted it to get wifi hotspot. I am not flashing any roms or anything like that. Is there anything I should be worries about going wrong with my phone?

It all depends really. Of course the best advice is to take your time and read up on it but some people just learn better on the fly. Especially in today's society where the younger generation gets smarter and smarter with technology.

Personally, I bought my first OG Droid the day it released back in 2009 and had no idea what I was doing but as soon as I heard about rooting, I jumped in with both feet and have learned so much more by trial and error than I would reading about it.

For anyone else who has been flashing since the beginning, who remembers what the root tool was called originally? I have been thinking about this lately and just can't remember. I think it was like DM something. It was the early stages of ROM manager and clockwork.

I rooted my Razr today as well -- and I rooted both for wifi hotspots AND because I really wanted to have a good backup on my phone (along with everything else Titanium Backup does). I doubt I will ever flash a different ROM -- but I can now freeze bloatware and control more of MY phone -- and that is worth something.

If you rooted your phone and don't really plan on doing anything with it, you really have nothing to worry about. But good luck with that, lol. Once you start it's hard to stop!
