    Does root even matter?

I'm asking all droid hackers devs etc if root is really important to them. If carriers allowed for people to theme your phone to your choosing as changing notification bars icons etc would that be satisfying. Me personally all I rooted is for to have cool themes on my device. If carriers got up and said hey you guys can customize your device as you want but at the cost of no root access or root apps would that be a big deal isnt customization all what people want?

Root is crucial, everything from overclocking to themeing to something as simple as removing system or preinstalled apps

Root is very important to me. Themes aren't important to me and Ive only used custom roms to achieve a completely stable experience in the past. Luckily my new DROID pro runs better than any phone I've messed with. Regardless, root is extremely important to me if for no other reason than removing/freezing bloat. Being able to switch system apks is great too. I simply like to have completely control over my device.

Now as I seen in some of the post here theming is the last thing you guys care about when we talk about root. So lets say carriers said you have the ability to choose apps that you want in updates instead of them just installing it or gave you the ability to unistall their apps and added that you get root out of the box and then state that you welcome to hack to your liking as long as the device isnt comprised would you choose this over the ability to theme or have a rom or is roms still a must have?

Its a must for me. I personally cant stand motoblur or the problems it causes on my d2g so having a custom rom is a must. Personally, i could care less about themes as long as i have a black notification bar (white/grey ones are just too bright for me) mostly because i can make my home screens look however i want them to with themes for ADW Ex. Also, not having root wouldnt allow bloat removal and would also take away my newest hobby, developing for the d2g.

People absolutely need to learn to be more responsible for their device in regards to root. If I see another thread on here where someone says "I bricked my DROID x, its bootlooping and I can't get into recovery so I returned it to the store and told them it just randomly started doing this" my head is going to explode. I initially rooted my DROID one to obtain a smooth experience through kernels/Roms. Now, however, all of the high end devices come smooth and quick out of the box. I consider root a benefit and a privelage rather than a necessity. If and when rooting ends I will be just fine as long as I have my android.

Themes are just icing on the sweet sweet cake of root. I couldn't do without overclock/undervolt, speed, performance, bloatless roms etc..
It's like having a sports car with a speed governer. Wouldn't you want to get that thing off so you could get your money's worth and utilize the cars potential? It's the same thing with my $600 d2.
