You might want to rethink your thought there....if you get an upgrade and don't activate it on one of your lines you will get charged full price. Key word is activated.

all you have to do is just activate it then activate your old phone, you wont have to take the phone out of the box or anything like that.
How much is your voice plan per month? If you are on a voice plan that costs less than $49.99 a month; you are not eligible for an annual upgrade. Found that out a couple of months ago. I switched to the 450 minute plan back in 11/09 when I bought my Droid, since I was only using ~300 minutes per month, and lost my annual upgrade eligibility.
