Why cant I just get both phones for $200 apiece and up my contract two years? They should really put some thought into that. Just let people buy new phones for $200 and renew their contracts, no matter how much time they have left. It isnt that hard and Im sure most people will be happier this way.

First off - these phones are expensive. They put you on a "payment" plan basically over 2 years when you get it at the discounted rate. If they let you do it all the time no matter how much time you have left - they will never be able to get their money for the phone. Everytime a new phone would come out - there would be a bunch of renewals of contracts. Also your old phone then wouldn't be worth anything on ebay.
