Hey all! In july i got the lg env touch (junk!!) and got like 5 replacements because of all the problems ive had with it. Untill a month ago i was thinking about switching to at&t to get the iphone but when i saw the droid and what it's capable of, i decided to stay with verizon and i will get the droid in 3 weeks!
What does everybody think about their droids? is there anything i should know?
Hi there. The droid is awesome and iv only had it for 2 days. Not sure what i can tell you at the moment but that the droid is going to keep you entertained for a long while with all the widgets and features on it. There's some stuff people might complain about when they first get the Droid like i did which is the pinch zoom not in it like iphone but that can be added later on since its capable of multi-touch. Besides that the phones really fun to use and its so organized. Depending on what you're going to do most on the phone you'll be impressed im sure.
Yeah, that whole Pinch-and-Zoom thing is absolutely not a big deal. The hardware supports it, it's just the browser software that doesn't yet. Really seems like a nit-picky thing to worry about -- I'm honestly not terribly certain why some folks are pounding on Droid for not having it. I honestly don't care. Double-tap to zoom in works just fine for me.
I've had my Droid for almost a month now (got it the day after it was released) and I still love it. Integrates seamlessly with GMail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, etc... If you use Google for all your daily computer-chores, you will absolutely LOVE having a Droid in your pocket.
The only complaint I have about my Droid is that it doesn't support voice-dialing over a Bluetooth connection. You have to unlock the phone, press the Voice Dialer on the main menu (or create a shortcut to it on your desktop) then say the command ('Call so-and-so at Home,' for example) then select on the screen the proper number (because it usually finds more than one match) then it will finally dial. Not a hands-free experience at all. If you don't mind the lack of hands-free Voice Dialing, then you'll love the Droid. If you absolutely must have hands-free Voice Dialing, then don't get a Droid right now. I'd imagine that Google is working on a fix for this, but I've heard nothing definitive. It may be a month, it may be a year -- but I'm thinking they'll fix it eventually.
Also, the camera is not working 100% correctly yet -- but Verizon has said they will be releasing an over-the-air update on December 11th to fix that problem, and a few other minor annoyances (none of which affect me personally, so I forget what they are). So that camera-bug should be fixed in about a week, which means it shouldn't affect you if you're getting a Droid in 3 weeks.
The hardware itself is truly excellent -- any complaints that people may have, have been related to software issues. Those will get better as time goes on, because of the software updates that will be released by Google/Motorola/Verizon. If the lack of voice-dialing doesn't concern you, then there's no reason not to own a Droid right now.
Multi-touch IS supported on browsers on the Droid. I have Dolphin Browser, and it has multitouch and is better than the default Droid browser.
