Sure, verifying through the carrier is always the best way if you're unsure about a phone's status, or history.

But be sure to call and verify 2 or more times as CSRs for Sprint, and Verizon are also paid by commission. Meaning, if they activate a new account, and or sell a brand new phone, they make money off that.

In turn, they will tell you a clean ESN phone is not clean, just to make a sale.

CheckESNFree.com is linked directly to Verizon, and Sprint's databases. The ESN, MEID, and IMEI is checked via a remote API authorized by the carriers.

When the ESN/MEID/IMEI was checked, did you enter it correctly? If it was an IMEI, you can remove the last digit which will then give you the phone's 14 digit MEID HEX.
