New member intro - joined in desperation

    Hi Members,

I'm a Linux System Administrator and I joined in desperation after my and my husband's Droid motorola phones automatically updated to 2.3.3. We have both experienced multiple bugs - his worse than mine. He went to the Verizon store and they removed the drive, wiped his phone, reinitialized it (now he is missing many contacts and apps) but did not fix the problem. His phone bricks at random times for no apparent reason and also drains his battery completely. This didn't happen before the "upgrade".

Both of us have noticed lower battery time since the "upgrade" - I keep killing automatic apps with my App Killer but that doesn't work as well as it used to. Also, I keep getting notifications that an update is available for one of my apps, but when I click the update, I don't see any apps that says they need to be updated in the app list.

I originally set all my apps to update manually because I want to be able to control when my phone is using battery resources, but after the "upgrade" many of them are now updating automatically.

I used to have a Motorola Widget that displayed date and time in larger font than that corner time stamp which was helpful to me when I was in a hurry and needed the date and time, but now that widget does not come in a size that conforms with my needs (I want one long 4-app size line, not two) and mysteriously the DATE DISAPPEARED this last week. My frustrations overwhelm me.

ALOHA welcome to the forum. sorry ur having issues. vzw shouldve ensured u folks had a backup assistance for ur contacts. they couldve rerun the upgrade without wiping ur phone, unless they absolutely cant. i definately say uninstall any task killers u have, it doesnt really do anything and may only kill/end unnecessary apps that needs to run in the back ground. but as mentioned, which models do u all have?

Yeah, "Motorola Droid" phones is a bit vague.. That could be the Droid, Droid 2, Droid 2g, Droid R2D2, Droid 3, Droid Charge, Droid X, Droid X2, Droid Bionic.. etc.

Hope you get this solved though.

First of all, I would uninstall any task killers. Since you're familiar with Linux you know it handles is memory different than say Windows. Android handles it in the same way. Once an application needs more memory it kills something in the background to make room for the new app. Empty memory is wasted memory and serves no purpose. Task killers will mess up your phone in the long term. That might be the cause if your problems but I doubt it. I've seen a lot of people upset about the new blur gingerbread update. Which leads me to the second point.
If Gingerbread is really bugging you that much, you may want to actually sbf back to froyo. Complete Droid X .sbf Flashing Guide Use the Linux method for sure, it is extremely easy, and even easier for you!

I'm sorry that I really can't help explain anything about the blur gingerbread update as I don't run stock, so all I can say is sbf back to froyo, if you're having so many problems. A lot of people aren't happy with it. Maybe someone can help you though, someone who actually runs stock!
