I first started browsing this forum back in November 2010. I read up on both the Droid 2 and Droid X. This was going to be my first smartphone after all. Looking for issues people were having to help me make a purchase decision. I ended up with the Droid 2 when Verizon had the buy one get one free. Though I probably would have bought the Droid X if I wasn't shopping for two.
I rooted that very day and set up the wireless tether. But didn't go much beyond that.
A friend of mine got me interested in the custom roms. I was jealous of some of the features he had obtained through a custom rom. I just finished installing my first custom rom. I initially had a bit of trouble with the bootstrap. Clockworkmod from Rom manager was not booting to recovery. Then I found the apk for Koush’s Bootstrap Recovery although the link for free download was dead everywhere. That made recovery work and I was able to make a backup and then use Rom manager to install Liberty 1.5.
Liberty 1.5 is an excellent improvement from stock/blur/bloat. I had a small issue with the gingerbread keyboard where the font was small on the keys. The keys were properly sized just the font was small. I ended up finding a fix on these forums which involved changing the LCD Density.
This looks like a wonderful community to join.
