Well, a little familiarity with Linux would help. :)
Mounting the SD card to the PC is also known as Enabling USB Mass Storage Mode -- gives you access to the SD card via a PC or Mac.

Try clearing your dialer storage -- you'll lose your texts and call log but it might fix it.
