I went ahead and tossed all fears aside and peeled mine off...

You wont be sorry. It's nice and glossy but it has tracks for the sliding thingies inside. It makes the up/down motion much, much easier!

After reading Tuba's post, I decided to do the same thing to mine and pull the plastic off. After removing it, I have to belive that it is supposed to be removed. The back looks much nicer without it and I cant believe for a minute that something was supposed to be on the back of the screen which would let the track marks from sliding up and down show like that. Completely detracts from the 'style' of the phone having those track marks showing up. So, right or wrong, I did it and I'm happy!

Removing it makes it slide smoother, look nicer, and so far I have no marks on the back of the phone from sliding, which the film was starting to show. I'm glad I took mine off After a while it would have probably looked like ass and started to peel off or bubble anyway lol

After removing it, i retract my previous statement, i didn't even notice the slider tracks under it, until I looked at it closely. I agree it seems as though it needs to be removed.
    Resistance is futile.

    Valeria from Motorola

Valeria: Hi, my name is Valeria. How may I help you?
James Weber: I just received my Motorola Droid and there is some questions on the web on if the thin plastic film on the back of the slider screen is to be removed
Valeria: Yes, is a plastic to protect the phone until is received by someone.
James Weber: Ok I wasnt sure because there is no tab on it like the plastic on the fronts screen or the one on the battery
James Weber: It looks like it is ment to be permanent
James Weber: I just didn't want to remove it if it was required to keep the slider operating properly
Valeria: Yes, that one is just for sealing protection.
    James Weber: ok
    James Weber: thanks

So as per Valeria from Motorola I removed the film. and it looks much nicer. Onced removed it looks nicer and slides better.

My only concern is that once the film is removed, the screen will slide too easily. Is that not the case?

Nope, it slides perfectly fine without the film.

It does slide easy when you want it to. It still clicks into place open and shut and it isn't loose or anything. That film is way too thin to make THAT much of a difference. The phone isn't going to slide open when you tilt it to the side or anything lol it just slides smoother.
