    Droid 1 DIY speaker replacement??

So I guess at some point today I must have hit the rear speaker on my phone while it was in my pocket cause the sounds are all muffled like its under water and slowed down. Theres a small dent on the gold mesh on the speaker so I know I hit it on something. Is there a way to replace it myself or do I have to bring it in for a whole new phone? I don't wanna loose root by getting a new phone or anything. Any help please.

You can remove the gold mesh cover. There is another speaker protector under that and it is probably hitting the speaker. After you remove the gold piece use a pin to pry up the secondary layer. You'll probably destroy the gold speaker cove trying to remove it though. I used mine without it for about six months before I got a new phone.

Thanks...that worked perfectly. The gold mesh was pressing on the speaker like you said. I pulled it up and restuck it and it works fine now.
