downloading apps straight to memory card?

Hi, first time here. Nice to be here!

I am a new Droid owner. I'd like to know if there is a way of downloading apps straight to my memory card from the market place? It's interesting that the Droid comes with a 16g card, but the apps are downloading to the phone?

Is there a way of setting this up? Or maybe after downloading to the phone I can drag them to my card?

No, there is no way to do so.

When Froyo (OS 2.2) is pushed out it will have a feature allowing Apps to be installed to the SD Card.

Certain apps though should always be installed to the internal memory (widgets, etc.).

(you can do it with some custom Roms.....but 2.2 is reported to be coming late July so if you can, just hold off)

It's not really all that interesting. It's just the way it is. Apps can, however, currently be coded to store space-hogging resources on the SD card. Only the binaries (which are very small) have to be installed to phone memory.

Certain apps though should always be installed to the internal memory (widgets, etc.).

Internal memory is also faster than a class 2 SD card.

At the risk of asking an obvious question here (as a newbie) i haven't wrapped my head around how to utilize the 16g SD card.
Had my Droid 2.1 month now, storage constantly says approx "14.87gb" avail on SD Card, yet my "Internal" Storage has been so low a few times that i've had to dump texts/pix/apps to free up space.
So, how would/should one go about utilizing the nice, massive 16Gb SD card, to possibly free up space for "internal' space?
I'm sure this is an obvious topic, but a simple explanation would satisfy my curiosity greatly!
