will you guy download the screen mode widget, it solves all your problems.. i never have to slide or unlock just hit the top button or side and phone turns on
That's the same with anything that's ever been made.Still, I can't help but to think that large parts of the Android platform were created by engineers and no usability experts have ever taken a pass at this thing. A lot of this system is overly complex.
But...it still doesn't solve the need to touch the phone and perform a complex task (slide to a specific point) while say, driving, in order to answer a call.
I use Screenmode widget and adjust the settings often to allow the phone to lock if I am carrying it in a pocket or will not be using it for a while.
I also found another app earlier today that eliminates the need to hit the power button to wake up the screen. Takes some getting used to, and you may have to adjust the settings a few times to get it to work the way you want, but the app below is worth trying out at least...

If something for texting is what you want then download Handcent SMS and enable the popups. I personally dont mind this stuff seeing as its more safe and im not too lazy to press a button and swipe my finger to unlock and then go read my message. Personally i love the fact my phone goes into sleep mode. It conserves battery while the display isnt on since the display is what drains my battery the most. I dont text while driving and if i call while driving i am using a bluetooth and only got to touch the screen a little to make my call. This really isnt an issue for me as most smartphones (if they have smart devs) will have these safety precautions and features.
I like sleep mode and absolutely need it. I just think the whole power button step is backwards. the slide is enough of a lock. Its not going to unslide in your pocket. Why 2 steps? 3 if you include pulling down your notification menu which I have to do as well. Anyone who doesnt think this is wrong is stupid (jk.. kinda) No need for 2 steps just to see why the led is blinking. And god I can imagine if I had that UNsecure dot lock thing on there too. forget about it. Might as well go back to tin cans and string.
Just tried NoLock, free in the market and it does what I need. Has a widget where you can lock and get the swipe bar when you press the power button or unlock and get your home screen when you press any button.
Good and simple, just like me!
