    Question Seperate ringtones for notifications?

I've looked all over and I have yet to find anything pertaining to this, so I am hopeful that I can find some help here.

We have only had the droid for a few days, but the most bothersome is that I can't seem to find a way to have seperate ringtones per individual for text messages.
Each person can have a different ringtone for a phone call, but not for a text message and this is very disheartening since I text far more often than I actually call people.
Is there an app that can do this, or am I overlooking it somewhere on the phone itself?

    Help is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Handcent SMS will allow you to choose individual text tones... and many other options. Also has an auto 160 character split for us VZW-ers.

You can add your own sounds/mp3s too.

On the root of your SD create a folder "notifications" and add to there.
    "ringtones" folder for ringtones!

Yes i use handcent too but i don't see how you can assign a custom sms tone for an individual contact. Maybe i wasted 99 cents dernit lol

Thanks Corina.. I'll have to look for that app.
I also have handcent (it was a free app), and it does not allow anything like what you described... but I have no idea where the root SD is.. lol.
    Maybe that's why.

I was able to custom set contacts that I have already received messages from by
    1. bringing up that contact
    2. hitting the tool icon (upper right corner)
    3. hitting notification settings (you will note, you can change the bubble settings as well)
    4. Hitting Notification sound.

Works well, you can even custom the notification icon and the led light so that you know sent you a message with the phone is powered down.

Have not figured out how to do this for contacts I have yet to receive texts from.

Is that the only difference between the Ringo pro and the Ringo lite? Hate to pay $4.99 for something that I can find or do anyways rather than paying.
There are so many free apps out there, that I'll look around before buying one.

I had the same problem, coming from a BB I got used to having different tones for different people's texts, the only app that I have found that will allow you to do this with my droid is Ringo, I only have the lite version, but it works like a charm!! Hopefully this helps!!

Search SMS PopUp or SMSPopup. Can't remember if it's one or two words. With this app you still use the default messaging app. It allows you to setup custom text notifications for contacts. Also, as the name indicates, it displays a popup window when you get a new text. If your screen is off it will turn it on and popup the window where you can quickly reply, delete, etc. And the app is free.

I tried out Handcent but didn't like it because it didn't integrate my contact pics from Facebook. That's probably been fixed in an update by now but I'm happy with the stock messaging app and SMSPopup.

using Handsent and it works great. assigns diferent tone for different contacts, and yes, it imports the contact pics from FB as well now. as long as that is what you have in your address book.
